What is the difference between spiral retaining ring and circlip?

2022-09-08

What is the difference between a spiral retaining ring and a circlip? There are significant differences in appearance between the two:

  1. 1.A circlip usually has two process holes for the application of circlip pliers, with two distinct protrusions at the process holes; while a spiral retaining ring has no protrusions.

2.The double-layered spiral retaining ring is similar to a key ring, except that it has a chamfer at the end of the retaining ring wire for holding. Due to the addition of a process hole, the circlip is easier to disassemble and assemble, but the protrusion at the installation process hole occupies a large space, which is a problem for both hole-use and shaft-use circlips.

3.Compared to circlips, screw collars do not have process holes and are not as easy to disassemble as circlips. However, screw collars occupy less installation space and have a simpler and more aesthetic appearance. For applications that do not require frequent disassembly, the advantages of screw collars are more pronounced.
